Her mother was only 15 years of age when Holly was first born. Her father (age 17 at the time) and her dropped out of high school in order to try and support their new-born daugther, but as it was very hard for them ended up splitting 2 years later. At the age of 8, Holly moved with her mother to New York and began to study at the Professional Childrens School, to follow her mothers career and becoming an actress.

During her school years she was noticed as having an exeptional acting ability, and was soon casted to stare in several commericals and print ads at the age of 10. Holly first appeared in a film called 'Flanagan', where her mother also had a role in. Soon after that she played in the movie "Sweet Hearts Dance" along side Don Johnson and Susan Sarandon.

At the age of 18, Holly was known best for her role as Kimberly Brooks in the series Picket Fences. Her first meeting with David E. Kelley however, didnt go very well as he said to her that she just doesnt have enough heart to play the role. Holly was very hurt and angry about his comments. However when eventually not finding anyone else that would fit his character, David had to rewrite it to fit for Holly, as she was the best that he was able to find. However Hollys pride didn't let her to accept the role as she was still hurt, and it took him a few weeks before she finally agreed to the part. In the years of playing as Kimberly, she also took up the roles in 5 different movies including "Sins Of Silence" and "Daughters".

In 1993 she met Brian "Bugsy" Smith in Las Vegas, and they got married only 8 Days later. Their Marriage lasted 4 Years.

In 1998, she was offered the role of Piper Halliwell in the TV series 'Charmed', and decided to take it because she liked the script. As her role on Piper she says she'd never manage to be like her, as she tends to overreact a lot and be worried, a lot. "I just don't have the energy to be like her all the time."

Holly owns 13 pets: 3 dogs, 2 cats, 4 lovebirds, 2 horses, and 2 physicaly disabled hamsters (one is very fat and the other has 3 legs).
